UK Sex Discrimination Legislation
WEConnect is about levelling the playing field and enabling women to have a fair opportunity to tender for contracts, after which it is business as usual and the business must go through the standard corporate or government tendering process, and be assessed on their merits with no regard to gender.
Majority-women-owned businesses are under-represented in the UK supply chain.
WEConnect seeks to address by providing access to contracts.
Positive action is about encouraging under-represented groups to take advantage of opportunities. It should not be confused with positive discrimination, which is illegal.
To ensure that there is no ambiguity on this issue WEConnect has sought legal advice and is assured that this programme is in-line with UK Sex Discrimination legislation.
